Commissioning Engineer (Contract)

Location: Ballyhea, County Cork, Ireland / Home/office based.

Scope: Fixed-term contract, Hybrid – 6 months, with potential extension of up to 10 months.

WHO ARE ILOS?

ILOS is a fast-growing renewable energy company with a strong presence across Europe, backed by BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts and committed to accelerating the energy transition. Since 2018, we have developed, built, and operated large-scale solar PV projects across seven core markets.

THE ROLE OVERVIEW

ILOS is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning and successful handover of its renewable energy project in Ballyhea, County Cork. Working closely with the EPC Project Manager, construction team, contractors, grid stakeholders and asset management colleagues, the role will ensure that electrical systems and associated equipment are tested, commissioned and documented in line with approved designs, applicable standards and project requirements.

This is a site-based fixed-term contract for an initial period of six months, with the potential to extend for up to ten months. The Commissioning Engineer will play a key role in coordinating commissioning activities, resolving technical issues, and supporting a safe, high-quality transition from construction to operations.

TASKS

  • Plan, coordinate and monitor commissioning activities for the project, ensuring works are completed safely, on time and in line with approved commissioning plans and project requirements.

  • Review technical documentation, drawings, test procedures, commissioning programmes and handover requirements before and during commissioning activities.

  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, grid stakeholders and internal project teams to ensure commissioning activities are effectively planned and executed.

  • Witness, review and verify electrical testing and commissioning of relevant equipment and systems, including LV and MV infrastructure, inverters, transformers, protection systems, SCADA and grid-connection equipment.

  • Identify, record and follow up commissioning issues, defects and non-conformances, supporting the timely implementation of corrective actions and resolution of outstanding items.

  • Ensure test records, commissioning documentation, certificates, as-built information and handover packs are complete, accurate and maintained in line with project requirements.

  • Verify inverter configurations, grid code settings, protection parameters and operational limits to ensure compliance with project specifications and grid operator requirements.

  • Support grid compliance testing in accordance with applicable grid networks requirements, including verification of test procedures, results and plant performance.

  • Investigate and troubleshoot technical issues related to inverters, SCADA/PPC systems, protection equipment and communication networks during commissioning.

  • Support grid-compliance, energisation, performance and acceptance-testing activities in coordination with relevant contractors, grid operators and technical advisers.

  • Support the transition of the project from construction to operations, including technical handover, punch-list close-out and the transfer of relevant information to asset management teams

  • Provide regular updates to the line manager on commissioning progress, technical issues and outstanding actions.

PROFILE

  • Degree or comparable qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Proven 3 years of experience in electrical commissioning, construction, engineering or site supervision within solar PV, renewable energy, power systems, grid infrastructure or a comparable environment.

  • Strong practical understanding of LV and MV electrical systems, transformers, inverters and loggers, protection systems, SCADA, monitoring portals, and grid-connection infrastructure.

  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, test procedures, commissioning documentation, inspection records, and handover information.

  • Familiarity with commissioning, energisation, grid-compliance and acceptance-testing processes for renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects.

  • Strong awareness of site safety requirements and the ability to work effectively in an active construction environment.

  • Structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to identify technical issues, manage priorities, and drive actions through completion.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, suppliers, grid stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Willingness and ability to work site-based in Ballyhea, County Cork, for the duration of the contract. I would suggest to keep it in Hybrid role rather than full site based. Till 50% present on site.

  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.

  • Full valid driving license and willingness to travel between project sites as required.

Become part of a committed team shaping the future of clean energy, together.
